JAY Z “Picasso Baby: A Performance Art Film” at NYC art gallery

Music is the most famous material form of art and just because it Jay Z.

Jay Z has briefly returned from the high heavens of product placement to the idiosyncratic artsy roots that make him approachable to his fans. Inspired by grandmother of performance artist Marina Abramovi?’s The Artist is Present, Jay Z took the Magna Carta Holy Grail track Picasso Baby and not only performed it six hours straight at an NYC art gallery but filmed the whole experience.

Directed by Mark Romanek, the finished product is an eight minute endeavor sandwiched between an interview with Jay on the importance of performance art. Abramovi? herself makes an appearance, along with some highly unlikely high-profile guests that include Judd Apatow, Jemima Kirke, and Picasso’s granddaughter Diana Widmaier Picasso. The video is far more interesting than the song, and a much-needed boost to yet another semi-unremarkable track off HOVA’s latest album.
